COMO’s Doris Muller Preschool awarded national accreditation

STONINGTON — Stonington Community Center’s Doris Muller Preschool recently received accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children, a distinction achieved by less than 10 percent of all child care centers, preschools, and kindergartens nationally.

Based in Washington, D.C., the association is a nonprofit, professional membership organization that works to promote high-quality education and developmental services for children, from birth through age 8.

The accreditation process, which took more than two years to complete, involved achieving benchmarks on 10 research-based standards, such as excellence in curriculum, child assessment, family communication, community collaboration, physical environment and leadership and management.

The COMO preschool achieved a 99 percent pass rate and received commendations citing excellence in nine of the categories.

“This is the bar. NAEYC has publicly recognized this standard within our preschool classroom and team as a result of our education director Priscilla Rouquayrol’s leadership,” COMO Executive Director Beth Stewart said in a release Wednesday.

“This merit recognizes the COMO’s commitment to excellence and our staff’s hard work; we couldn’t be more proud of earning this recognition.”
